Fruits & Vegetables
A wide variety of sub tropical, tropical and temperate fruits and vegetables are grown in Sri Lanka. Vegetables are generally available throughout the year. Fruits are available on a seasonal basis.
Fruits
The key strength of this industry lies in the area of fresh fruits, including such varieties as Queen Pineapple (Mauritius), Passion fruit (Yellow), Papaya and speciality Banana which are available year round.

Ambarella is a relatively new item in the expanding list of exotics. Amberella originated in Tahiti and has been introduced to many other countries. It thrives best in tropical and sub tropical regions.

Seasonal fruits such as Mangosteen, Rambutan, Avacado and Durian have found a growing demand in Europe and other destinations.

Vegetables
Capsicum, leeks, cabbage, snake gourd, bitter gourd, tomato, curry papaw, curry mango and yams such as cassava and taro are the major vegetable varieties
exported from Sri Lanka.
